TTAutoGuide was lucky enough to be invited down to the Porsche Centre Trinidad and Tobago for the launch of the all new 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera and 718 Boxster to enjoy some cocktails, hor d’oeuvres, a relaxing lounge atmosphere and of course to droll over the latest Porsche sports cars on display. The house was packed as Porsche owners and specially invited guests made their way through the Porsche Centre showroom to finally take a close look at the all new Carrera and Boxster.
First on display was the all new 718 Boxster in Porsche’s new signature color, Blue Graphite Metallic with some choice options and accessories added by the dealership. The base models are equipped with a 2.0-litre turbocharged horizontally opposed engine with direct fuel injection (DFI), VarioCam Plus and integrated dry-sump lubrication. The unit develops 220 kW (300 hp) at 6,500 rpm. Maximum torque is 380 Nm. Thanks to turbocharged induction, it is available as low as 1,950 rpm and prevails until 4,500 rpm. With Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), the new 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in only 4.9 seconds, reaching a top speed of 275 km/h. The S models draw their power from a capacity of 2.5 litres. The result is 257 kW (350 hp) at 6,500 rpm. The maximum torque of 420 Nm is available across an impressively wide range from 1,900 to 4,500 rpm. This engine – like the unit in the 911 Turbo – also comes equipped with variable turbine geometry (VTG). VTG provides an even more consistent delivery of power and, in turn, significantly greater driving pleasure. Propulsive potential? Top speed is 285 km/h. The S models with PDK and Launch Control complete the 0 to 100 km/h sprint in just 4.2 seconds.
Also on display were two stunning examples of the all new 2017 Porsche Carrera S. The new 2017 911 Carrera (referred to as the 991.2) comes equipped with Porsche’s all new 3.0 turbocharged flat six that is standard in all 911’s going forward.
The engine of the 911 Carrera and 911 Targa 4 models develops 272 kW (370 hp). The maximum torque of 450 Nm is available from as low as 1,700 rpm. With Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), the 911 Carrera can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in only 4.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 293 km/h.
The propulsive potential of the engine in the S models shown here, featuring upsized turbochargers and independent exhaust system, is even more impressive. It generates a power output of 309 kW (420 hp) and the maximum torque is a mighty 500 Nm, available from as low as 1,700 rpm. With Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) and Launch Control, the 911 Carrera S sprints to 100 km/h in a mere 3.9 seconds. Top speed isn’t reached until 306 km/h.
