First Tesla arrives in T&T

It was only a matter of time before the first Tesla showed up in Trinidad and Tobago. And it’s a Model S!

Smart Energy Limited imported the Tesla Model S as a promotional vehicle and judging from the buzz on social media this morning, it has certainly paid off. We contacted Smart Energy and TTAutoGuide.com will be covering the planned launch at Movie Towne on Saturday 18th June and will follow-up with a full review and test drive.

The Tesla Model S was first produced in 2012 and is a  five-door full-sized all-electric luxury lift back. Upon its introduction, the Model S was an instant hit among car enthusiasts for its looks and performance. The official range set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the U.S. was 265 miles (426 km). At the time, it was higher than any other electric car. Its energy consumption is rated at 237.5 watt-hour per kilometre (38 kWh/100 mi or 24 kWh/100 km) for a combined fuel economy of 89 miles per gallon gasoline equivalent (2.64 L/100 km or 107 mpg-imp) by the EPA. Below are some pretty impressive performance specs:

Engine Transmission HP Torque
Electric Automatic 328 HP 387 Lb-Ft
0-60 MPH Top Speed Body Style  MPG
5.2s 140 MPH 4dr Car N/A

The performance differs on three different options. The “basic” of the Model S, the 70D, runs on 240 miles,  accelerates in 5.2 seconds to $1000 or 60mph, max torque of 387 lb-ft, and a top speed limited at 140 mph. The 90D has a range of 270 miles, 4.2 second 0-60 mph, max torque of 485 lb-ft, and a top speed of 155 mph. The P90D has a range of 253 miles, 2.8 seconds 0-60 mph, max torque of 713 lb-ft, and a top speed of 155 mph.

The AWD Model S has digitally and independently controlled torque distribution to the front and rear wheels. This is made possible by two motors, that is one in the front and one in the rear, enabling it to achieve supercar acceleration of 60 miles per hour in 2.8 seconds.
