The Charge for speeding in Trinidad and Tobago has now be raised from $4,000 TTD to $6,000 TTD as of today 18/05/16. The chapter in the Motor Vehicle Act affected is the following:
MVRTA (enforcement) Chap 48:52 First Schedule item 68
Conversely:
MVRTA Chap48:50 section 62 (5) wrote:
(5) Any person who drives a motor vehicle on any road in contravention of the provisions of subsection (1) is liable to a fine of four thousand dollars and to be disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving permit for such period as the Court shall think fit.
There is a lot of confusion about the difference between being charged and getting a ticket for speeding.
- Ticket for Speeding = $1,000 TTD
- Charge for Speeding = $6,000 TTD
The fine for speeding is still $1,000 TTD when you get a ticket from a Police office. A person can be charged up to $6,000 for speeding if they appeal a speeding ticket in court and they lose.
